MITSUBISHI CHIEF TO CHAIR S.A.TRAINING AND SKILLS COMMISSION
.

The head of Mitsubishi Australia is to become Chair of the State Government’s Training and Skills Commission

The Commission, created in 2003, is the industry-led body that regulates training and advises the Government on present and future skill needs in South Australia.

Mr Tom Phillips is retiring as Mitsubishi CEO and will take up the new position from January 1 next year.

“While the news earlier this month that Tom Phillips was retiring from Mitsubishi came as a surprise to many, I knew then that South Australia could not afford to lose the talents of someone of his experience, integrity and leadership qualities." said S.A. Premier MIke Rann

“Above all, I wanted to make sure Tom Phillips stayed in South Australia and used his incredible depth of knowledge and understanding after 40 years in the automotive manufacturing industry to help us make the right decisions about training a workforce for the future," he said.

Mr Rann said that the State needed more trained workers for military construction projects and uranium mining expansions.

“We need to gear up our skills for a range of projects including the Air Warfare Destroyers, the massive Roxby Downs expansion and the mining boom" he said..
